Dear sisters,
Assalamu aleykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu!
Teenagers are an endless generator of ideas, impulses, revolts, and constant adventures. Since the camp had nothing to entertain the children with, they found something to entertain themselves: going to the market (more precisely, sneaking out there), testing the patience and the nerves of the military, studying the terrain of other camps, but the most dangerous were bike races at nighttime and so much more.
Today, I will tell you how the children went for a “walk” outside the “gates”.
They were sneaking out to the market 2 times a day: once in the morning, the second time in the afternoon, but we know that wild teenage blood knows no laws. There was an iron mesh fence around the camp, which could be easily cut with pliers and unraveled like a knitted sweater. They certainly had the tools. In some places, there were blind spots, which of course were caught by the eyes of these little rebels. While the military was dealing with the complaints of the women, who had come for a medical check-up at the medical center, etc., the children took action. They climbed through the gaps in the fence and ran through a small grove, through which they could enter the market unnoticed, and then, as if nothing had happened, they came back through the main entrance, without anyone realizing that the children had left without anyone noticing it. Sometimes, the parents did not know that their children had built an entire underground organization that helped them enter the market at any time without any trouble, and without waiting in line with almost half of the camp. Quite a lot of… There were several such “windows of opportunity”, all of them near the main entrance from which it was the easiest to reach the destination. The military could not cope with this problem, in one place the hole was closed and almost immediately a new one appeared a little farther away.
Bike races are another type of entertainment. They were taking place when it was already starting to get dark outside, when the heat subsided and there were not so many people on the street. The children were choosing the longest streets and so the fun would begin. One of such races almost ended in tragedy for my son. There were hardly any toys in the camp and it was expensive to buy them. Many people could not afford them. An alternative was found.
They were taking garbage bags, cutting them, and they were also taking sticks and strings. And so the kite was ready. They left a long string, and they let the kite fly high in the sky.
And my son got entangled in the string. It was windy when he started to ride the bicycle, and a child who was nearby started to fly a kite and my son’s neck got caught into the string. Because of the wind, the string stretched and he almost got strangled.
When children have nothing to do, they look for adventures. Unfortunately, not every adventure ends well. May Allah protect every child!
