-part 2-
May peace, mercy, and the blessing of Allah be upon you. In this account, I will continue my story about fires. It was the second largest loss of both spirit and material. The camp is divided into sectors which are separated by roads. At dusk, it was a little while till dark, I was cooking in my house and talking to my girlfriend.
When a fire breaks out, it usually creates panic in the whole camp and everyone rushes to help, however they can. As I was saying, the camp guards rarely allow the entrance of water tanks that can extinguish the fire in a few minutes. We often get the impression that they are doing it on purpose, so that we can suffer and be in anguish more.
Children walking down the street came running, screaming that there was a fire. My youngest daughter rushed into the tent and started panicking in such way that I couldn’t calm her down. We had to go outside to see at least how serious the situation was. Because of the chaos created, I didn’t go to help. We thought a tent was on fire, but we were wrong. The tents had started to burn one after another. The roar of the fire was terrible. Kerosene cans exploded. The fire either intensified, either decreased in intensity. The most terrible thing was that again, they did not allow the tank to enter with water, and we could not extinguish it by ourselves. The fire spread like a line toward my tent. Everybody was screaming, the kids were terrified. All we could do was pray for the mercy of Allah, to ease their suffering, and to allow water tank trucks to enter. The fire intensified and many tents burned. The sisters went to the gate demanding that the tankers be allowed in. The drivers, in turn, were trying to get in. Thank Allah, we managed to convince them to let the tankers in. The fire was extinguished.
It was very difficult emotionally. On that day, many tents were damaged.
It has been a long time since this incident, but I still remember and feel the emotions as if it were the first day. Oh Allah, keep us from evil, and preserve our lives.
